CONTRACTOR
“I put in a lot of time and thought evaluating other alternative fuels. Propane autogas stood out as a responsible fuel, sourced in America – specifically in Texas – that could take my company to the next level of protecting our environment while securing our bottom line.” - Gary Kulp, president of Austin Gutter King.
“We are excited about deploying this new alternative fuel product in our fleet. We expect it to lead to significant cost savings in both fuel usage and maintenance intervals.” - Tom Armstrong, director of fleet at Thyssen Krupp Elevator.
Contractors Take Bold Steps to Leave a Smaller Carbon Footprint
Competition among contractors is leading many customers to choose service providers that not only offer the best price, but one that protects our planet’s natural resources along the way. Reduce, reuse, and recycle are becoming the mantra of contractors everywhere, and ROUSH CleanTech is answering this call with a lineup of propane-autogas powered Ford trucks and vans that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower operating costs.
At Austin Gutter King, clean reigns supreme — a clean-cut business philosophy that provides easy-to-clean gutter products to customers while ensuring a clean environment for future generations. Established in 2001, Austin Gutter King has taken steps to reduce their carbon footprint by using wind to power their shop, rainwater to wash fleet vehicles and an extensive recycling program. The next logical step, according to President Gary Kulp, was to power their fleet of service vehicles with green alternatives.
Their 16 service vehicles trek between 12,000 and 22,000 miles each per year, with oil changes every 15,000 miles. By adding three ROUSH CleanTech Ford F-150 pickups and one fully customized Ford E-350 cutaway van, all powered by propane autogas, the company has reduced carbon emissions by nearly 98,000 pounds per vehicle over the 200,000-mile life of each truck and van.
To strengthen its sustainability efforts, reduce transportation costs, and cut pollution, ThyssenKrupp Elevator, the world’s premier manufacturer, installer, and service provider of vertical and horizontal transportation technology, is also using ROUSH CleanTech autogas propane vehicles in their Phoenix market. The company, which runs a fleet of 3,300 vehicles in North America, has the potential to remove nearly 323 million pounds of carbon emissions each year by switching their entire fleet to propane autogas. ThyssenKrupp is considering similar test vehicles in other markets in the future.
On the financial side, estimates show that by using propane autogas, a company’s oil change costs are cut by 60 percent, and the life of each engine will almost double over gasoline-fueled fleet vehicles. A federal tax credit of 50-cents per gallon of propane autogas purchased makes fueling these vehicles even more economical. Many contractors are already familiar with propane’s benefits through propane forklifts. ROUSH CleanTech’s propane autogas trucks and vans run on the same product powering this machinery.
For contractors without fueling infrastructure on-site, installing a propane autogas refueling pump is easy, and can be accomplished with little to no out-of-pocket costs. Usually a contract with a propane provider is all you need to have a site installed. A federal tax credit of 30 percent, up to $30,000, for alternative fueling infrastructure is also available to offset investment costs of switching to propane autogas through 2011.
For those companies needing to fuel on the go, propane autogas is available ‘right here, right now’ with nearly 56,000 miles of pipeline and 6,000 retail dealer locations. Propane autogas has more refueling stations available than any other alternative fuel, with thousands of propane fueling stations across the U.S., which include stations in every state.
