Local School Utilizing Propane Buses

CHARLES CITY, Iowa- The Charles City School district is transitioning from the traditional diesel buses to propane buses. Each bus costs around $85,000 and the school has purchased 2 so far; they say even with the prices of diesel dropping, propane will still save them money in the long run.

“Each bus will save us about $1,500 per year,” says Jerry Mitchell, Director of the Charles City School District Transportation, buildings and grounds. “We try and keep each bus for at least 10 years, so in their life span they should save us about $15,000.”
