Fuel for Everyone

We’ve been all across the country at various trade shows this past month and have seen a consistent theme around alternative fuels; propane is now in the same conversation as the mainstream fuels like compressed natural gas (CNG), biodiesel and electric.

While CNG is a great option for many fleets, those concerned about package space, payload, range and infrastructure costs, propane autogas provides a more seamless transition, especially in Class 4-7 vehicles.

Some industries where fleets have chosen propane autogas over other alternative fuels include:

Beverage. Nestlé Waters North America continues to show their dedication to and support of autogas technology by displaying one of their Class 6 medium-duty vehicles at ACT Expo. These trucks deliver Arrowhead® Mountain Spring Water to Los Angeles-area businesses and residents.

Baking. H&S Bakery’s ROUSH CleanTech Ford F-59 trucks are lowering emissions across their delivery area. Over its lifetime, each autogas fueled truck will eliminate about 117,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions from the company’s carbon footprint.

Paratransit. During the APTA Bus and Paratransit conference, Metro Magazine profiled Detroit’s Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART). SMART recently adopted 61 ROUSH CleanTech Ford E-450 buses for their paratransit operation.

Propane. At NPGA’s Southeastern Expo, AmeriGas displayed one of their autogas Ford F-550s that delivers propane tanks to customer sites. The propane supplier recently purchased 50 more crane-equipped F-550s.

On top of the customers I’ve already mentioned, hundreds of public and private entities in the United States are saving as much as 19 cents per mile with propane autogas when comparing to diesel.
