Manufactured for the school, childcare, Head Start, church, tour and shuttle markets and sold exclusively by Blue Bird dealers throughout North America, the Micro Bird is built on a Ford E-450 chassis and uses the 6.8-liter engine with a ROUSH CleanTech liquid propane system. The engine is extremely reliable and offers industry-leading performance. The entire vehicle can be serviced through the Ford or Blue Bird Dealer network.

Fuel systems are available for 2012 and newer model year Ford E-450 DRW cutaway school bus configurations equipped with the 6.8-liter V10 engine.

A Micro Bird G5 Ford School Bus equipped with the ROUSH CleanTech propane autogas fuel system delivers the same horsepower, torque and towing capacity of a gasoline-powered school bus with a 6.8-liter V10 engine: 305 horsepower and 420 pounds of torque. Whether you are in extreme cold or extreme heat, high or low altitude, or any inclement weather condition, your propane autogas truck will start and operate consistently and reliably.

Warranty: Identical

Micro Bird G5 Ford School Buses equipped with the ROUSH CleanTech propane autogas fuel system maintain the factory Ford 5-year / 60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty. The ROUSH CleanTech propane autogas fuel system is covered by a limited 1-year / 12,000-mile warranty when installed on a vehicle that is no longer covered by the Ford factory warranty.

Serviceability: Identical

Tax Incentives

A tax incentive is available for alternative fuel that is sold for use or used as a fuel to operate a motor vehicle. Retroactive to January 1, 2015, the credits are extended through December 31, 2016.


The tax credits consist of:

  • A $.50 per gallon excise tax credit for 2015.
  • A $.36 per gallon excise tax credit for 2016. The reduction for 2016 reflects an updated energy content calculation of excise tax.
  • A fueling infrastructure credit for up to 30 percent of installation costs, not to exceed $30,000.
