Propane Marketers & Distributors

“The only thing Ferrellgas takes more pride in than serving many of the nation’s largest propane autogas fleets is boasting one of the largest alternative fuel fleets ourselves. There’s no better way to sell fleet owners and managers on the economic and environmental benefits of this clean-burning, domestic fuel than to point to the many benefits propane autogas helps us realize in our own fleet.” — Scott Brockelmeyer, vice president, marketing and corporate communications, Ferrellgas.

“At Kamps Propane, we see savings of $1.50 to $1.70 per gallon based on the current pump prices and our distributor pricing on propane. It makes a lot of sense for us in the propane business to run our vehicles on the fuel we sell.” — Terry Ayres, vice president, Kamps Propane.

Going the Extra ‘Green’ Mile

Kamps Propane Alt Fuel VehicleIt seems only natural for propane suppliers to fuel their own fleet vehicles with the same product they promote each day. Propane as an auto fuel offers the same benefits as it does when used across the vast realm of traditional applications, such as home heating, water heating, grilling, forklifts, lawn mowers and more. Any by using a fuel already purchased and stored onsite, propane retailers can reduce additional fleet fueling pumps and eliminate imported fuels from their inventory — while lowering their costs and carbon footprint.

Kamps Propane, headquartered in Manteca, Calif., has decreased its carbon footprint and reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by switching to propane autogas. With 25 ROUSH CleanTech Ford F-250 trucks in their fleet, they annually emit 1.56 million fewer pounds of carbon dioxide and save about $150,000 in fuel costs, compared to their gasoline-fueled trucks. Kamps also has experienced reduced maintenance costs by fueling with propane autogas.

Ferrellgas, the nation’s second largest propane retailer, also fuels with this clean, domestic energy source. About 25 percent of Ferrellgas’ delivery and service fleet runs on propane autogas. According to Scott Brockelmeyer, vice president of marketing and corporate communications, the company plans to switch an additional 1,000 vehicles to propane autogas over the next five years.

ROUSH CleanTech light- to medium-duty work trucks and vans are fully customizable for any job description. For propane suppliers needing a heavier-duty work truck, ROUSH CleanTech offers the 6.8-liter V10 propane autogas powered Ford F-450 / Ford F-550 Super Duty chassis cab, designed to suit a wide range of uses including dump, landscape, flatbed, construction, waste, utility, freight and more. Equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission, the system works on all cab and wheelbase configurations, as well as 4×2 or 4×4 vehicles.

Based on today’s fuel prices, a propane autogas Ford F-450 or Ford F-550 can save about $30,000 over a 200,000-mile vehicle life, and can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere by 80,000 pounds or more.
