Supporters of propane as an alternative fuel source hope more people will follow the Mississippi Insurance Department’s lead. The department’s fire marshal’s office has converted eight of its vehicles to use propane, which its backers tour as cheaper and cleaner-burning than gasoline.
“It’s easier on the engine, too, less deposits,” says state Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney. One of his department propane-powered vehicles was featured as part of the Mississippi Propane Autogas Roadshow on Thursday at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum.
