1 Billion Miles and Rolling
This month, we celebrate the deployment of our 20,000th propane autogas vehicle. In less than a decade, we’ve deployed thousands of Blue Bird school buses, Ford commercial vehicles and transit buses fueled by propane autogas. These vehicles have accumulated more than 1 billion miles across the U.S. and Canada.
That number is important because it’s our main focus — to help our customers keep vehicles on the road, significantly reducing emissions and operating costs with this domestic energy source. We have one of the largest national service networks in the industry with more than 700 service centers. And, we’ve launched a data-collecting connected vehicle pilot program to connect our vehicles with Customer Success, helping us respond quickly, reduce vehicle downtime and predict future failures.
Roush is known for engineering excellence and commitment to technical achievement. Our propane autogas fuel system is engineered to California Air Resources Board’s lowest ultra-low NOx standard of 0.02g, making it 90 percent cleaner than the strictest EPA standard. Vehicles with this engine are 99 percent cleaner than diesel vehicles built before 2007. And for our California friends, our vehicles fall right in line with California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard, which requires a gradual reduction in the carbon intensity of fuels sold in the state.
Funding is available from federal and state resources as well as the Volkswagen settlement. We’ve had many successes with school buses fueled by propane autogas, such as in Lafayette, Louisiana and various districts in Nebraska. In Iowa, 100 percent of the applications seeking propane school buses were funded. And in Tennessee, 14 districts won funding to replace diesel school buses with alternatively fueled buses.
Ultra-low emissions vehicles, lowest total ownership costs, domestic energy source, improved public health, customer focus — it all adds up to a smart, healthy energy choice for fleets.
